Introducing a unique new database to use as a teaching and research tool
in your courses, featuring fully-searchable therapy transcripts and client narratives
If you teach a core course in clinical or counseling psychology that cuts across
various concentrations, Counseling and Psychotherapy Transcripts, Client Narratives, and Reference
Works, will be a useful training tool for you and your students. This new online database from SAGE and Alexander Street Press includes the
- 2,000+ previously unpublished transcripts of therapy sessions
- 40,000+ pages of first person accounts
- 25,000+ pages of SAGE handbooks and reference works
Your students can browse this material in a variety of ways, including by client gender, age, marital status, and sexual orientation; therapist gender,
experience level, education, and therapeutic approach; symptoms; and diagnosis of disorders. Furthermore, all therapy transcripts have been put through our
rigorous anonymization process, ensuring patient confidentiality.
Consider how Counseling and Psychotherapy
Transcripts, Client Narratives, and Reference Works could be used in the following courses:
Theories of Counseling and Psychotherapy – The database contains transcripts from therapists from various theoretical orientations and thus could be used to help students understand the key differences between approaches.
Psychopathology – The database contains transcripts and case studies with clients from a number of different psychological categorizations within the DSM, thus they can be used as a tool for illustrating various mental disorders.
Clinical and Diagnostic Interviewing – The database will be particularly useful for students beginning to learn the basic skills required to interview and diagnose clients. The availability of real life transcripts gives students the ability to see therapeutic interviewing in action and learn from real life scenarios from actual clients.
Courses on the various therapeutic approaches – The database could be used to provide more depth of content for courses that focus solely on one therapeutic approach, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, existential/humanistic, systemic family therapy, and many others. The database provides transcripts from most major approaches and thus could be used as illustrative material.
